MANAGEMENT
Hybrid sudangrass is a fast growing, summer annual with multiple harvest flexibility. It features aggressive tillering, fine stems, leafiness, rapid recovery after cutting or grazing, and is adapted to areas where Sorghum X Sudangrass Hybrids or open pollinated Sudangrass are grown. Well suited for direct pasture, dried hay, green chop or silage.
• Plant after spring frost danger and soil temperatures exceed 65° F
• Drilled Seeding Rates:
Midwest, Northeast, Southeast: 25 to 40 pounds per acre
Plains dry land: 15 to 30 pounds per acre
Plains irrigated: 25 to 40 pounds per acre
Soutwest Irrigated: 125 to 150 pounds per acre
• Approximately 32,000 seeds per pound and range in color from tan to black
• Apply approximately 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre preplant and top dress 40 to 60 pounds after each harvest
• Harvest at 45 to 50 inches of height (before heading). Leave 3-6 inches of stubble to encourage fast recovery and tillering. Do not graze until regrowth is 18-24 inches.
• Follow the same feeding precautions as with other sorghums to mimimize the risk of prussic acid or nitrate poisoning
